How To Improve Your Singing Voice
Singers are usually looking for ways to improve their singing, searching for new techniques and tips on how to improve your singing voice. Here’s a few things you can do if you are looking for ways to sound better while singing.
Add weight to your High Notes
Whenever you sing a climbing vocal scale or you sing a high note, take a moment to think about the way a lift works. A substantial weight is connected to a pulley and as the weight pulls down, the lift really goes up to the higher floors. In this way, the most elevated floor is reached when the weight is the heaviest. This metaphor helps with understanding that high notes should not have any pressure on them, you should be delivering adding weight on the high notes you sing. This way you will find a way to sing high notes without straining your voice or hurting it.
Stand in front of a mirror to get a good Vibrato
A great technique you should know for how to improve your singing voice is to stand in front of a mirror and press your chest firmly with both hands. Raise your chest higher than usual, breath in and out without lowering your chest while you do it. This will take a while to get used to, so look at your body, the position of your shoulders, your general stance while you do it until you achieve this and your chest stays in the same position as you breathe in and out. After you have managed this, you can try to sing one note and hold it as long as possible with your chest raised. Apply pressure on your chest to the diaphragm area, and start singing notes, you can press hard and raise your chest to meet the weight of the note. While you do this, remember to relax the back of your neck and keep your jaw open as you’re singing. You should picture the air turning around in your mouth while you hold your chin to the floor and your chest raised. This will make a natural vibrato sound and will help you understand how to improve your singing voice. Once you are comfortable doing this, you can try singing full phrases in a scale while you go in and out of vibrato.
Adjust your volume
A decent vocal tone does not mean you have to sing at a very loud volume, but rather a comfortable medium volume. Great tone happens when vocal chords are sufficiently warmed up and control over the voice is learnt. Releasing a lot of air means the voice will sound hoarse, while releasing too little air makes the voice sound too nasal. Unless you’re truly going for raspy or nasal as an expressive decision for your singing voice, you should find a middle volume for your voice and stay there. Hopefully, this techniques will help you with how to improve your singing voice.
